Queer audacity and craft glue...

At some point in this process, I convinced myself that I could make a flat lay book at home. You know the ones - thick paper, hard cover, seamless images spread wide.
So I sat down with tape, glue, a knife that was probably too blunt, a stack of prints, and the queer audacity to think “Okay how hard can it be, really?”.
In my head, I was about to create something charming and artisanal. In reality… let’s just say the tape gave up before I did. Edges slid, glue stuck to places it shouldn’t, and the whole thing looked more like a Year 9 scrapbook project than a sleek photobook.
But even though the book didn’t survive, the attempt taught me a lot. It made me think about weight, about sequence, about how an image feels when you physically turn the page. It helped me consider the book’s rhythm, even if my DIY version couldn’t hold itself together.
Sometimes progress comes from scissors, glue and a dose of humility.
